Yesterday was my turn to share devo with our squad before we start our day. I chose an excerpt from the book I’m reading (Letters to the Church by Francis Chan) called Supernatural Love. It talks about how our love for the church and fellow believers should be familial. Christ loved us so much that he endured whippings, backlash from his own people, and a gruesome death on the cross, just so we may be with Him in Heaven as a part of his family. We’re called to let Christ’s love be manifested in us and perfected in us, yet the love we experience and receive from the church is no different than the love we get from our friends at work or at school.

As we were getting ready to spend time with the community last night, I wondered how I could show that love to the people here in Costa Rica. Contrary to popular belief, I’m actually a bit shy and quiet around new people, so I was nervous to step out in love and start building that relationship with some of the locals, but doing that has been one of the biggest highlights of my trip so far! We laughed with each other all night and built a friendship that I didn’t know would be possible.

I still can’t speak Spanish well, but showing a familial love to my community here has the power to bond us just as much as speaking to them fluently could (it definitely wouldn’t hurt to be able to do that though)!

Okay thanks for listening to the thoughts that have been running rampant in my brain today! 🙂

P.S. Meet my new friends 🙂
